The King's Palace in Nyanza
In Nyanza, the old royal capital, a replica of the traditional palace, a great woven-thatch hut, stands next to the last king's residence. Inyambo cattle, bred for their horns, are still raised and sung to there.
The day pairs well with the Ethnographic Museum in Huye, further south.
Dance, drums and baskets
Intore dancers, in white fibre headdresses, carry on the court dances to the beat of drums. Hand-woven agaseke baskets have become a symbol of the country.
In the hills, a visit to a tea estate or a coffee cooperative is the easiest way to meet the people who make the country work every day.
