Akagera National Park

Akagera is like no other Rwandan park: low plains, a dozen lakes and papyrus swamps along the Tanzanian border. Lions were reintroduced in 2015 and black rhinos in 2017, so all five of the big mammals can be seen here again.

You explore it on game drives and on the water: the boat trip on Lake Ihema passes hippos, crocodiles and hundreds of birds. It is the only park in the country you can visit as a day trip from Kigali.
