Three towns, three moods
In the north, Rubavu, formerly Gisenyi: a lakefront lined with old villas, hotels and bars, just one hour from Volcanoes National Park. The perfect pause after a trek.
Halfway down, Karongi, the beach town with hills of pine and eucalyptus. In the south, Rusizi, gateway to Nyungwe, where the Congo Nile Trail ends.
On the water and on the trail
The Congo Nile Trail follows the shore for 227 km in six stages, on foot or by bike, between coffee farms and fishing villages. You can do just one section.
Kayaking, boat trips to the islands and the fishermen heading out at dusk, their songs carrying over the water, round off the stay.
