The forest growing back
The country's youngest park: two replanted forests, chimpanzees and community tourism.
Between the volcanoes and Lake Kivu, Gishwati-Mukura brings together two forests: the larger Gishwati and the smaller Mukura. Long cleared, they have been replanted and protected; it is Rwanda's newest park.
Here you follow a small community of chimpanzees, golden monkeys, L'Hoest's monkeys and blue monkeys. Visits are led by guides from neighbouring villages, who make a living from the regrowing forest.
